Engineering for heritage environments
IoT Squad’s SmartWhere technology was deployed and evaluated in a live museum environment as part of the Victoria and Albert Museum’s Environmental Monitoring System tender trial.
Working alongside KP Acoustics Ltd, we brought together wireless environmental sensing, the SmartWhere platform and enterprise integration capabilities to demonstrate a connected monitoring solution within the operational environment of V&A South Kensington, London, UK.
What we demonstrated
Wireless monitoring with minimal visual impact
Low-power wireless sensing demonstrated how monitoring could be introduced into sensitive museum environments while reducing the need for extensive cabling and visible infrastructure.
Discreet gateway infrastructure
The deployment demonstrated how gateways could operate from existing communications rooms, keeping additional infrastructure out of galleries.
Enterprise IT integration
SmartWhere was deployed within the requirements of the V&A’s enterprise IT environment, demonstrating our ability to work with institutional network policies, approved connectivity arrangements and IT governance processes.
These capabilities were demonstrated under real deployment and integration constraints in a working museum environment.
A successful collaboration
The trial combined KP Acoustics’ environmental monitoring, consultancy and deployment expertise with IoT Squad’s SmartWhere platform, wireless IoT engineering and integration capabilities.
Following the competitive evaluation process, KP Acoustics secured a place as one of five suppliers appointed to the V&A Environmental Monitoring System Framework.
For IoT Squad, the trial provided valuable practical experience and demonstrated SmartWhere’s suitability for demanding heritage environments.
Building on the experience
The experience gained through the trial now informs SmartWhere® Heritage, our dedicated solution extending environmental monitoring into connected environmental and asset intelligence for cultural heritage.
