Without CO\u2082 in the atmosphere, the energy that is delivered by the Sun to Earth&#8217;s surface would just radiate back into space as heat, leaving our planet cold and hostile to live. Too much CO\u2082 however causes the average temperature to rise. While there are natural cycles in the Earth&#8217;s history where CO\u2082 concentration rises and falls, it is the current speed of change that may not allow time for many species to adapt and cause their extinction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/feed\/hashtag\/?keywords=co&amp;highlightedUpdateUrns=urn%3Ali%3Aactivity%3A6940941290528194560\">#CO<\/a>\u2082 concentration is commonly measured in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/feed\/hashtag\/?keywords=ppm&amp;highlightedUpdateUrns=urn%3Ali%3Aactivity%3A6940941290528194560\">#ppm<\/a>&nbsp;&#8211; parts per million. It is an indication of the number of its molecules in the overall mass of the air&#8217;s million molecules. According to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/feed\/hashtag\/?keywords=nasa&amp;highlightedUpdateUrns=urn%3Ali%3Aactivity%3A6940941290528194560\">#NASA<\/a>&nbsp;&#8211;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/lnkd.in\/gYtQ7xp\">https:\/\/lnkd.in\/gYtQ7xp<\/a>&nbsp;&#8211; currently, the fresh air CO\u2082 concentration is measured at approximately 417 ppm<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Humans are directly sensitive to CO\u2082 levels.
